The future of DEIB is not only promising—it’s ours to shape. The challenge is real, but so is the opportunity to rewrite its narrative. As coaches (and leaders who actively coach our teams), we are uniquely positioned to drive this change. Let’s explore how we can influence the trajectory of DEIB together.
A New Chapter for DEIB
Despite some recent setbacks—*some* corporations pulling back from DEIB initiatives, legislation limiting diversity efforts, and a growing backlash—there is a powerful truth: The majority of people still believe in the value of DEIB in the workplace. Recent studies show that over 50% of U.S. workers see a workplace focus on DEIB as a positive force, and 60% of Americans agree that diversity programs are a good thing to adopt. When you consider popular support around popular tactics such as mentoring, that number is even higher! Our client bases and teams are becoming more diverse and we will need principals that work to build successful coaching practices and high-performing teams.
This tells me one thing: DEI isn’t going away—it’s evolving.
Coaches: The Rewriters of DEIB’s Story
The DEIB landscape is undergoing a shift. There’s confusion, resistance, and even fear—but there’s also opportunity.
We, as coaches, have a critical role to play in guiding this transformation. Now is the time to step up and shape the future.
As coaches, we possess the unique tools and expertise to be a model for organizations and leaders through this fundamental shift. By weaving intersectionality, psychological safety, and belonging into our coaching practices, we create unforgettable experiences for our clients. The need to build REAL connections across differences is not a passing trend—it is a foundational element of success in today’s leadership, today’s organizations, and today’s coaches. It’s essential for thriving in this new era. Together, we can lead the charge in equipping our clients to navigate and succeed in an increasingly diverse world.
